Welcome to Stella Maris Secondary School.
My name is Margaret Rose Martinez and I am the School Principal.
I have been educated entirely in Catholic Schools, first, Our Lady’s Convent in Sitiawan and then St. Michael’s Institution in Ipoh and feel that it is a gift from God that I now have the chance to serve as Principal of a Catholic School.
I have a degree in Humanities with Education and graduated from University Sains Malaysia in 1977. For ten years after graduation I gained wide experience serving in premier Schools such as Penang Free School, Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor and Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar in Johor Bahru. Then I felt it was time to pass on my enthusiasm for teaching and I joined the Teacher Education Division of the Ministry of Education. I served as a Lecturer in Education in Maktab Perguruan Temenggong Ibrahim Johor Bahru and Maktab Perguruan Ilmu Khas in Kuala Lumpur for fifteen years.
I joined Stella Maris as Principal in 2005. In this School we believe that each student is a child of God deserving respect. We believe in the wholesome development of our students, spiritual, social, intellectual and physical. Our style of instruction integrates Catholic values and academic excellence and we try to cater for the various learning styles of students. By the time they leave our School, students will learn that self-discipline is the best discipline. We achieve this by providing a positive, safe and structured environment for learning, encouraging our students to take responsibility for themselves and for one another. We feel that parents, teachers and students are partners in education and form a tripartite collaboration which is essential for the full and balanced development of each student’s potential. Our goal is to prepare students to become productive, responsible citizens and life long learners, who can meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
